This 12-day Namibia itinerary combines dramatic desert landscapes, coastal adventure, cultural highlights and exceptional wildlife viewing. It begins in Windhoek, travels to the iconic dunes of Sossusvlei and Dune 45, continues to Swakopmund for optional activities such as Walvis Bay or Sandwich Harbour, and then heads into rugged Damaraland to explore Twyfelfontein and its ancient rock engravings. The journey concludes with multi-day game drives across Etosha National Park’s southern, central and northern regions before returning to Windhoek for departure.

Itinerary

On arrival in Windhoek, you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. Depending on your arrival time, you may relax at the lodge or take a short orientation walk around the city. Dinner options such as Joe’s Beerhouse offer a great introduction to Namibian cuisine before you settle in for the night.

Today begins with a guided tour of Windhoek, visiting landmarks such as the Independence Memorial Museum, Christ Church, Parliament Gardens and the Craft Centre Market. The afternoon is spent preparing for the journey into the desert—purchasing snacks, water and any last-minute supplies—before returning to your lodge to rest.

After breakfast, you depart Windhoek and travel south through scenic passes toward Sossusvlei. The route takes you through the small settlement of Solitaire, where you stop for refreshments and photos, before continuing to your lodge near Sesriem. Later in the afternoon, you can enjoy sunset views from Elim Dune.

An early start allows you to enter the park at sunrise and climb the famous Dune 45 before exploring Sossusvlei and Dead Vlei. You may hike up Big Daddy for panoramic views, visit the Sesriem Canyon in the afternoon, and return to your lodge for dinner and relaxation beneath the desert night sky.

Today you travel from Sossusvlei to Swakopmund, passing through the dramatic Gaub and Kuiseb Pass and stopping at the Tropic of Capricorn for photos. Upon arrival in Swakopmund, you can explore the beach promenade, enjoy German colonial architecture and dine at one of the town’s coastal restaurants.

This day is reserved for optional activities in Swakopmund and Walvis Bay, such as a dolphin and seal boat cruise, a 4x4 tour to Sandwich Harbour, or quad biking and sandboarding on the dunes. The remainder of the day may be spent enjoying museums, cafés or relaxing on the beach before another evening in Swakopmund.

Leaving the coast behind, you travel north into Damaraland, passing rugged landscapes and possibly sighting desert-adapted wildlife en route. On arrival at your lodge, you can relax and enjoy the stunning scenery and peaceful atmosphere.

Today is devoted to exploring Damaraland’s cultural and geological treasures, including the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Twyfelfontein with its ancient rock engravings. You also visit the Organ Pipes and Burnt Mountain and may opt to learn about the Damara culture at a living museum before returning to your lodge.

After breakfast, you depart Damaraland and drive to Etosha National Park. The afternoon is spent on a game drive where you may encounter springbok, zebras, giraffes, and predators near waterholes before settling at a lodge or camp.

A full day of safari in Etosha’s central region allows you to explore major waterholes such as Nebrowni and Okondeka, where elephants, lions, and rhinos are often seen. You end the day at Halali, with the chance to enjoy game viewing at the camp’s floodlit Moringa waterhole.

Continuing across the park, you head toward the eastern region around Namutoni, passing Fischer’s Pan and other productive waterholes where cheetah and diverse wildlife are frequently sighted. The evening is spent at a lodge or camp.

After breakfast, you exit Etosha and travel south back to Windhoek, stopping at Okahandja Craft Market for souvenirs. The tour concludes with a drop-off at your Windhoek hotel or directly at the airport for your departure flight.
